Opposites

I began this project by choosing to look at weather and how it is controlled by season’s but can cause chaos, this then lead me to look at satellite images of hurricanes and tsunamis as I feel these cause the most chaos and disaster, I also created some digital images influenced by these. After doing some artist research Roliko sudo stood out to me as she uses the effects of weathering in her work, so I then started looking into how weather effects things. I then decided to burry a series of fabrics in my garden to see how they would change and used rusted nails caused by the weather to rust some fabric. I then started to focus my project on how weather effects things, I took a range of close up imagery of mould, rust, decay to get me started and took my ideas from there. I wanted to closely look at texture and colour and so tried to recreate this in my knit samples.  For my final piece, I wanted to relate back to my initial starting point of order and chaos and so created four final knit pieces. I limited myself to use only a certain amount of techniques and colours to keep it ordered however, I didn’t plan the designs to see how the pattern would change between the four. I feel this was a chaotic approach as I did not know how each of the designs would turn out however, I am happy with the results.
