Cable knit dress

I spotted this dress in the window of the high street electrical store currys, i found it very interesting and felt it related to my current focused research well. The designer has re used old cables and wires to create this knitted dress. I think its a great way of showing how anything can be recycled even in the strangest of ways. In this project i would really like to work with old materials or products as it will link well with my research of make do and mend really well, i would especially like to try and knit with used products.

Make Mend & Do

'We live in a throwaway society. When our clothes get threadbare, stained or the seams of our trousers show wear, most of us simply dispose of them by throwing them in the bin or donating them to charity before going on the next shopping trip down the high-street.'

Hotspur House

So we have been given Hotspur House as a working space through out Unit X, i think this i great when i first walked in i wasn't to sure as it just looked like a shabby old building with not much inside, but when you look past all that its easy to see what a opportunity this is! It will bring groups together to meet and share ideas and has excellent work space I'm really looking forward to spending time in here.

MOSI

Museum of Science and Industry
I was very excited to hear that our final exhibition would be held and the MOSI knowing its open to the public is a really exciting thought and opportunity. On our visit we got to see the screens where our video footage will be displayed on the 23rd of June.

These are the screens that all of  the wearing it group in unit X work will be shown on.

Unit X - Community Corture - Initial ideas..

As a group we decided to choose Community Couture out of the four videos because we liked the issues that it raised such as, poor conditions for workers, climate change impacting the fashion industry and the way of life, and the use of 2nd hand clothes growing, divide between class and social status. We are currently working on ideas to each have our own individual project and inspiration but then bringing them together along with the aspect of community couture for a final outcome.

Unit X

After hearing the brief for Unit X i think everyone was a little confused the opening lecture i found didn't explain exactly what the aim of the project was, but after being grouped in to wearing it and a chat from Julie i am beginning to understand more of what its about and finding it really interesting. I am looking forward to working within a group i think it will be fun to share ideas with others and help bounce ideas off one another. The project so far is really exciting me and i am looking forward to seeing what it holds!
